Not just learn as by rote, but to learn with understanding and to Know Your commandments. This is appropriate as I set about the task of meditating on each aspect of the Law as a daily discipline. Guide me, Lord, give me wisdom and understanding and let that wisdom and understanding lead to obedience in all things.

The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from birth, speaking lies. They have venom like the venom of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops its ear, so that it does not hear the voice of charmers or of the cunning enchanter. O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted. Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun.

So many dear friends, trapped in lives of sin and deceit, perhaps coming faithfully to our studies and services within the prison, but yet with unrepentant hearts. "having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power." (2 Tim. 3:5) Bring that power, the fire of the Holy Spirit

To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David. Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods? Do you judge the children of man uprightly? No, in your hearts you devise wrongs; your hands deal out violence on earth.

Lord, we see so many men in the prison who join us faithfully for worship and study but when released quickly revert to their old ways. What is missing in their transformation? Where are they not hearing the Word? Are we not conveying the proper message? Give us wisdom and understanding.

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.

I know, Lord, that You are over all and that all things work together for the good of those who love You. Therefore I will not fret and worry, stew and fuss; You are in control and are managing this situation with T for Your glory and honor. Help me to leave it in Your hands and to not run ahead of You.

Let your glory be over all the earth! They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. They dug a pit in my way, but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah

Lord, my prayer is for T and that she will cry out to You for salvation in her distress; that You will open her eyes to the futility of the path she has chosen and to the glories of the life available through You. Bless, her, Lord, let Your eyes shine upon her that she might be saved. What a great testimony that will be among the youth of Springfield.

To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave. Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!

Lord, we are certainly going through the wringer of adversity, trial and disappointment this week. It is a challenge to remember that You have called us to sow the seeds and till the soil but that You will give the growth. So, as this phase of our ministry draws to a close we will be called to ministry to Tasha in a new way but to carry the same message of Your love and forgiveness.

Yes, Lord, even though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I will thank and praise You for Your great mercy and grace. You have removed the fear of death and filled me with Your life; You have provided a level path for my feet and furnished the light of Your word so that I would not stumble. Praise You, Lord.

You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?

Lord, Your compassion never fails but my eyesight does. I know in my head that ALL things are under Your feet, but that artery called faith that carries the belief to my heart is plaque filled. Help me, Lord, for my faith is weak but my hunger to be in Your presence is consuming.

The greatest concern today is T. Will she be at the P&P offices at 9 or not? Lord, grab a hold of her, bring her to You, break that will-filled spirit and give her a thirst for You.

To the choirmaster: according to The Dove on Far-off Terebinths. A Miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me; my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

This is going to be a day of testing and challenges but what can man do to me? I know partially what is ahead and know that if I turn to You continuously throughout the day and at the onset of each test, you will be glorified. The day is not about me but about You. Will all my actions and words advance the Kingdom or will I be a drag on the Kingdom? I must trust You and Your goodness.

Psalm 55:16-22

But I call to God, and the LORD will save me. Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice. He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage, for many are arrayed against me. God will give ear and humble them, he who is enthroned from of old, Selah because they do not change and do not fear God. My companion stretched out his hand against his friends; he violated his covenant. His speech was smooth as butter, yet war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

I know, Lord that You will save us from this trial, that You know why we are here and what You want us to learn about our relationship with You. I know that in Your time, as we learn to wait on You, that You will sustain us, relieve us of our anxieties and reveal to us how You have moved in us for Your glory and honor. O, Lord, help us to wait on Your leading in this matter. And, Lord, do not be subtle, I need direct direction. And then fill me with the courage to be obedient.

For it is not an enemy who taunts me-- then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me-- then I could hide from him. But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. We used to take sweet counsel together; within God's house we walked in the throng. Let death steal over them; let them go down to Sheol alive; for evil is in their dwelling place and in their heart.

Lord, the problem facing me today is T, and getting her to do what she needs to do. How do we encourage her to do her school work, to get her affairs in order, find a job, all these things that make up life. Lord, she needs You in her life, not just words that she thinks will please me, but a burning to please you.

Lord, destroy those affections of evil that beset my life. Remove the jealousy, greed and covetousness that distort my relationship with You. Teach me, Lord, to be satisfied with Your provision, recognizing that it is beyond adequate, I am replete and satiated in the munificence of Your love.

My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me. Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. And I say, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest."

I love You, Lord, You are my shelter from the raging winds and the tempests of life. As the turmoil mounts, I can come to you for peace and security, nestle in the comfort of Your love and grace to be restored and reequipped. I can fly away to You; it is the remembering to take advantage of the refuge and not to continue the struggle in my own knowledge and strength.

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David. Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan, because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me.

This is certainly a time of trouble, Lord, as we wrestle with the challenges of ministering to ex-inmates and acting as in loco parentis to one of them. We know that You have called us to this and that in part to train us as Your disciples. Therefore, give us strength to press on, and wisdom in dealing with the problems and the willingness to turn to You for direction is all aspects. We have so much to learn.

My foes are not ruthless men, but evil affections and desires. Save me, Lord, from greed and lust, from covetousness and envy, from anxiety and doubt, from pride and self-will. All these that the Evil One uses to come between me and You, that he uses to destroy my joy in You. You and only You can stand between me and the foe.

This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.

LORD, Your Word is my Hope, it is my Comfort. Praise You, for You have provided all that I need for wisdom to live life in Your Kingdom. Your Word provides that certain expectation, that Knowing, that a life lived in accordance with Your precepts is a life lived in harmony with You, a life that reflects Your Glory into those places where You send me.

Have those who work evil no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God? There they are, in great terror, where there is no terror! For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you; you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

Those who work evil today against Your Church are not the Philistines and the Canaanites but are the spiritual forces of greed, lust, pride, self-will, adultery, complacency and so forth that the Evil One finds so effective against us. We have lost our trust in the goodness of the Kingdom, we fear those forces that the world around us fears, we no longer speak Your word into the culture for we are the culture. We are in great terror and without reason for that terror.

God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

Lord, You have called me to take the message of Your love to those who reject You. You have called me to demonstrate by word and deed that there is a God, a great God who loves them and who has provided relief from the burden of sin. Guide me and teach me to be a faithful messenger; forgive me for my failings and use me.

You have removed the sin and the shame that separated me from Your presence; You have cleansed me from the filth that made me abhorrent to You; I have entered into Your family as Your child. To the choirmaster. A Maskil of David, when Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech." Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day. Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit. You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue.

Lord, is there any of this wicked spirit in me? Is there a love of gossip and a desire to see the sins and foibles of others exposed? Do I still seek to use my tongue to destroy rather than to encourage and build up? Do I use the failures of others as a camouflage for my own sins and errors?

Only thorough the power and working of the Holy Spirit, only through Your word exposing my sin to the light. Reveal and transform me, Lord.

Lord, You send me out to rebuild the walls, to repair the breaches, to make strong the defenses. But not in my strength, but in my weaknesses and in Your strength. Psalm 51:14-17

Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. (15) O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. (16) For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. (17) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Lord, lead me into the consecration of my body, my heart, my soul, my mind, my strength as a right and proper sacrifice of praise to You. Where is my spirit not broken, where is my heart not contrite, where does self reign, where are You not Lord in my life? Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10-13

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.

When I stumble, Lord, when I turn from Your guidance, when I lose my focus on Your Kingdom and righteousness, it is You and the Holy Spirit who return me to communion and to right functioning in the Kingdom. Then once again, I become an effective ambassador for the Kingdom, one equipped and able to teach Your ways to those You call.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

You, Lord, and You alone, have set me free. You and You alone, died for me and provided the atonement demanded by my sin. You and You alone, are the Lamb of God, sent to take away the sins of the world. You and You alone, sit at the right hand of God, in triumph over all Your foes, directing the advancement of the Kingdom. You and You alone, will come in glory to take me to dwell with You forever. You and You alone are my Lord and my Master, the Lord and Master of all creation.

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

The Holy Spirit is my Nathan, holding up my life against the truth of Your word, exposing the continuing death struggles of the old man to the light and righteousness of Your law. There are so many areas where I try and protect him, where I act as the co-dependent and enabling parent, excusing my behavior but all is evil in Your sight and must die. Continue, Lord, in Your love and graciousness to transform me into Your image, fit for Your presence and useful to You in the advancement of Your kingdom.

"Mark this, then, you who forget God, lest I tear you apart, and there be none to deliver! The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!"

Psalms 119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

How do I continuously offer thanksgiving as my sacrifice of praise? How do I order my way rightly? How do I live out my salvation? Only by paying heed to every work that proceeds out of Your mouth and obeying that Word. Guide me, Lord.

But to the wicked God says: "What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant on your lips? For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you. If you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and you keep company with adulterers. "You give your mouth free rein for evil, and your tongue frames deceit. You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son. These things you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like yourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you.

Is this deceit is me? Am I guilty of slandering my brother and yet claiming to live in your covenant? Do I encourage thieves and adulterers to continue in their evil ways? Do I fight against your holy and just discipline? Quicken the ears of my heart, give me the willingness to listen to Your Holy Spirit as He guides me into all truth.

"Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God. Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt offerings are continually before me. I will not accept a bull from your house or goats from your folds. For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine. "If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and its fullness are mine. Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and perform your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me."

Lord Jesus, open the eyes of my heart to the hypocrisy that resides within it. I hide behind a shield of self-delusion; I need to have my sin exposed and the smug pride stripped away. The underlying piety and sanctimony laid bare for me to see and repent. Convict me of my sin, Holy Spirit.

A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest. He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: "Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!" The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! Selah

LORD, that You would reveal Yourself anew. That I would be refreshed and re-fired by Your presence. That last night on the mountaintop would continue to be revealed to all today. That my face, my words, my actions would be an unveiled reflection of Your glory today and every day. That Your presence in my life would so subsume me that I would totally decrease, You would be totally visible in my life

Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him. For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed --and though you get praise when you do well for yourself—his soul will go to the generation of his fathers, who will never again see light. Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.

Lord, let the transformation that You have worked and are continuing to work in me be evident to all. Let those who have refused Your offer be convicted and brought to You. Guide me so that no word or deed of mine will or can be used to allow someone to excuse themselves from Your offer of love and mercy. O that all my love ones would see Your love through a transformed me.

For he sees that even the wise die; the fool and the stupid alike must perish and leave their wealth to others. Their graves are their homes forever, their dwelling places to all generations, though they called lands by their own names. Man in his pomp will not remain; he is like the beasts that perish. This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts. Selah Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd, and the upright shall rule over them in the morning. Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell.

Lord, there are many whom You have given into my care to shepherd and nurture, yet who persist in setting their desires above Your Law; whose self-will refuses to recognize that Your way leads to blessing in Your presence. These name You as Savior, but refuse to acknowledge You as Lord and Master. Help me, guide me, instruct me as I show them by word and deed that there is a better way.

Why should I fear in times of trouble, when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me, those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches? Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice, that he should live on forever and never see the pit.

I have nothing to fear from those who attempt to take advantage of me. All is from You and for You, if someone steals or cheats, they are taking from You and must answer to You not me. You have paid the price for my life; You have insured that I will never see the pit; all else is insignificant.

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. Hear this, all peoples! Give ear, all inhabitants of the world, both low and high, rich and poor together! My mouth shall speak wisdom; the meditation of my heart shall be understanding. I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.

Lord, if my mouth is to speak wisdom, if the meditation of my heart is to be understanding, then You must prepare my heart and mind. You must open my ear to Your word and to the comprehension of Your riddles.

Walk about Zion, go around her, number her towers, consider well her ramparts, go through her citadels, that you may tell the next generation that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.

Your Body, in You, is a object of beauty and glory, reflecting You and showing You to the kingdom of Man. In its purity, it is a living demonstration of the transforming power of Your love and mercy. It is here to allow the world to see the possibilities, the promises at work, the joy, the peace, the righteousness that exist for those who live in Your kingdom. Lord, be with me today as I go, that I would be one of those messengers whose feet are blessed because they bring Good News.
